HOW IT ALL STARTED...

The Quality Aquatics Company began while I worked as a manager in a local fish store, in charge of the aquarium section.  I can't remember how many times I talked to people who just kept having one problem after another with their tank.  Soon I found myself making house calls on the side a few times a week, and that is when the light bulb turned on.  I was 19 at the time, commuting to and from college, and although I had been a freshwater hobbyist for several years, I had only a little more than two years of marine aquarium experience under my belt. But at the same time, I wanted to help people, and I was hungry for knowledge and more hands-on experience.  I knew I was having much better success than the people who were coming in asking for help, so I gave it a shot.  And with that, Quality Aquatics was born.

Most of my initial customers were fish-only saltwater set-ups, with an occasional freshwater tank here and there.  I took care of my first reef tank in 1993, before the reef hobby was really in full swing.  Before calcium reactors, live sand, and nano-reefs were a part of everyday conversation.  Before I became involved in the aquarium maintenance business, I was a hobbyist like many aquarium enthusiasts are today. I had the ups and downs, the rights and wrongs, and yes, the tragedies. Because I started at a very young age, I always tried to make sure I was doing things the right way, because I didn't have the luxury of spending money like water. My parents taught me responsibility, so when a heater broke, or a fish died, the money for replacing them came out of my pocket. As I grew older, I took this appreciation with me, and my aquarium values stemmed from there. It has always been my philosophy that good ethics are essential for success in the aquarium hobby, and I kept that same train of thought when I began caring for other peoples tanks as well.

I have always had a fascination with water, fish, and especially the ocean.  My initial college interest was Marine Biology, but things did not pan out, so I chose my other passion, education.  As a teacher and coach, as well as having a full-time maintenance business, I spend a lot of time working with people.  I consider myself  very lucky to be able to enjoy two occupations that I am very passionate about.  Having extensive knowledge of the aquarium world, as well as being a goal-oriented and disciplined individual,  I knew I could use my experience to help other people manage and maintain their aquariums.  Fish keeping is not always as easy as some people may think.  Especially these days, with complex filtration systems, hi-tech lighting, custom set-ups, and of course, the diversity of aquatic life available.  It is our privilege to be the local company that can handle any aquatic need, be it freshwater, saltwater, reef tank or pond.

Quality Aquatics is a full service maintenance company, providing everything our customers need right down to the finest of details.  We can design, install, and maintain any style, shape, or type of aquarium.  Custom jobs are our specialty, but we also provide standard or stock set-ups as well.  So whether its built into a wall, or standing in a hall, no tank is too big or too small.  Our maintenance programs are designed with consistency and efficiency in mind, allowing us to accommodate the needs of any aquarium system.  We also offer other services as well, including medical house calls, vacation care, tank relocation, and consultations.  Whatever services you may need, we provide free estimates for all of our jobs.

Quality Aquatics has been providing quality aquarium care to area customers since 1991.  Our company has grown to be the premier custom installation and maintenance company in North Central Ohio. We continue to stay on top because we recognize the needs of each and every set-up we care for.  Our number one goal is to have beautiful aquariums with healthy, happy, thriving inhabitants.  We do not compromise the lives of the creatures chosen to be kept in captivity just to make an extra buck or two.  Quality Aquatics strives to please every potential client that comes our way, but not at the expense of the aquarium inhabitants.  Some people mistakenly have visions of saltwater tanks jam-packed with colorful fish.  I personally do not share or encourage that kind of vision.  We do not do business with people who want unrealistic expectations, or set-ups that are not ideal for certain marine fish or invertebrates.  Actually, we have even lost a few saltwater customers over the years because we refused to put that one extra fish in, or did not stock an aquarium quickly enough.  The whole process of selecting, quarantining, and caring for marine fish is an investment not only in our clients money, but in their trust and patience as well.   Having a slice of the ocean in your living room or office area is a major commitment, and maintaining these aquariums is a job that we take very seriously. People must remember that regardless of a tank's size, whether it be a 55 gallon or a 500 gallon, it is still a tiny man-made box in comparison to the natural environment of the oceans these animals are used to.  I am sorry to sound like I'm preaching, but I'm a big supporter of Ocean conservation, and I guess it shows in my day-to-day business. The bottom line is, I am all for giving my customers the fanciest and nicest set-up around, but again, not at the expense of the animals kept in captivity.

So, if you want a company that will set-up, stock, and maintain a dynamic aquarium with beautiful, healthy, and vibrant fish, you have come to the right place!  My crew and I look forward to serving you any way we can.  Thanks for stopping by our website.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey Thom
